Bock Bock Bock

Hello!  Owen has the chicken pox.  I imagine Lily and Ethan will have them right shortly as well.  I called the doctor’s office just to make sure I was right about what I should be doing about the chicken pox … Aveeno bath, Benedryl if the itching is too much, Tylonol for fever and pain, calamine lotion, etc.  I was right.  The nurse told me “you’ll be counting spots for the next 4 weeks!” … for a grand total of all my kids having them.  Apparently though children under one year of age have a very small chance of getting them if their mother already had them (I had them in grade 2) because they still have trace amounts of the mother’s blood in their system, thus giving them an immunity to them.  I don’t care if Ethan gets them or not, they won’t hurt him … might as well get all three kids done at once, eh?!

I tore out the baby blanket I was working on (I hadn’t posted a picture) and decided to knit Ethan a cardigan instead.  I’m doing the Shawl Collared Jacket from Baby Knits for Beginners.  I’m knitting it in 12-18 months size, using a dark teal yarn (Patons Decor).  It’s going to look very nice on him.  I’m about 1/2 done the back.

I’m off to do laundry now.  TTYL  I hope your day doesn’t involve itchy children.  :)

  1. i had chicken pox as an adult and lemme tell you, i wished i had caught them as a kid. my mother even made me go play with kids that had measles/pox/mumps/disease-du-jour in order to get it out of the way. i stubbornly never caught anything though. hope the kids don’t drive you crazy!

  2. Apparently Ron had them twice - first was a mild case as a bay, then again when he was 7 or 8… I got them that time too… I was 5 or 6… but mom doesn’t remember me having them too… weird…. I remember them though because I had a bad one on my belly I kept picking at, and .. get this.. one on my TONGUE… that was not cool let me tell you…. but Aveeno baths are GREAT

  3. Paisley hasn’t got them…yet. All the neighbour kids had them last summer and I let her play with them but nothing. She did have the pox vaccine when she was a baby so I’m not sure if she’ll ever get them but I thought even getting the vaccine that they would still get a mild case of them. ?
My neighbour across the road’s daughter is 9 and she’s never got them either, her doctor says some people are only carriers and never get them. :-s
Good luck with the spots, hopefully none of the kids get them too bad (my sister got them in her throat and genitals when she was little, not coool!!!) I had them too, just not near as bad.

  4. My son got the chicken “pops” (as he said) when we were on vacation at the beach. Fortunately, it was a mild case. Hope your kids are as lucky.

  5. When our kids got the chicken pox we were living in married student housing in New York where there were TONS of kids. My son was the first in March and they were still kids with ‘pops’ in August!! But we got through it together!! Hopefully your kids will all sail through it!!

  6. Oh man - I hope he is doing better now!

  7. Ooh I hope they get them all now. Isabelle had them last year, as did 8 other children in the classroom. Isabelle didnt have a really bad case but did have a few with nasty scabs on them. I had to keep smothering them in calamine lotion so the scab would fall off quicker. The worst ones are in the regions where you dont want them, and fortunately Isabelle was spared that horrible part, but the ones in her hair were very painful for her. I do hope your children feel better soon, and perhaps some soup will make them feel better too.
