Kinsey’s Cable Scarf

Lily (aka Lilykins aka Kinsey) needed a scarf to match the hat I knit her last week, so I came up with a simple cable and garter pattern to suit my needs.  I thought I’d share it with you, since I adore how it came out and how simple it is.  There will be a permanant link to it on My Patterns page.

Materials
4.5 mm needles
Patons Decor (1 ball) or any other worsted weight yarn
cable needle
darning needle

Abbreviations
k = knit
p = purl
c6f = place first 3 stitches of cable on cable needle and hold them in front, knit the next three stitches as normal, then knit the three stitches off cable needle.

Instructions
Cast on 26 stitches.
Work 10 rows in garter stitch.

Begin Cable Pattern

Rows 1,3,5 & 7 (WS): k6, p2, k2, p6, k2, p2, k6
Rows 2,4 & 6 (RS): k6, k2, p2, k6, p2, k2, k6
Row 8 (RS): k6, k2, p2, c6f, p2, k2, k6

Continue working these 8 rows until desired length and then work rows 1-4 once more.
Work 10 rows in garter stitch.
Bind off and weave in ends.

Like I said, it’s simple … I loved knitting it … quick, easy and cables.  What could be better?  *lol*  I have actually already cast on for a 2nd one in Burnt Orange for Owen.  I was going to create another simple pattern for him, but he liked this one so much I’m doing it for him as well.

Happy Knitting!

    Thank you for sharing the pattern. I love making cabled scarves!

    I just realized I left you three different comments on your last three posts. I was behind on blog reading and probably could have just combined the comments into one comment. I’ll do that next time. :)

    Hi there! I’m just catching up on blog reading. I was sorry to hear about your birdie. Nine years is a long time and a long life but it is still difficult to lose a pet (I cried each time one of my goldfish died when I had fish so I’m a bit of a softie in that regard).

    About the camping: DH and I went camping in our camper van a couple of weekends ago (May 12) and I completely agree about camping being uncomfortable when you’re pregnant! Mind you, I was in a camper on a camper bed, which is a double. You were very brave to be in a tent (I’d be afraid of turning turtle on my Thermarest and never getting out again!). However, it was a cold night and DH and I decided we’d sleep in the same bed (we have another double bed in the pop top and had brought enough linen for both) and then Para decided it was too cold for her and she was up too. Needless to say, we came home exhausted and went for a nap immediately!

    Thanks for the tip on bamboo DPNs. That would be a lifesaver!
