Not Pretty
Good morning. Thanks for all your wonderful comments about Owen’s new hat. He was going to wear it to school yesterday, but at the last minute decided he’d rather wear his toque. There are a couple of kids in his class that make fun of the other kids for their clothes, etc. so I think he was a little worried he’d get teased. For the same reason he won’t wear his Toronto Maple Leaf shirt. Teasing and peer pressure sure does start earlier than it used to. He’s only in Senior Kindergarten. Unfortunately, such is life. The best I can do is tell him to just wear what he wants and do what he wants and not worry about what those kids think about it.
So, it’s not pretty, but it’s yarn. I was winding a ball of Bernat Softee Baby on my yarn winder last night in
preparation to knit a baby Pixie Hat and when I tried to pull the center out of the ball of the bernat wound ball I got a big mess. I fiddled with it for about 15 minutes before I cut it off and wound the rest of the ball. This big mess is probably about 15% of the ball of yarn. That’s a lot of yarn to have messed up. I find that bernat is the worst for such messes. I like their baby yarn the best (as far as inexpensive baby yarns go) though, so whats a girl to do? I haven’t decided if I’m going to try to untangle this mess, or if I’m just going to chuck it. I’ll probably try to fix it first, but I’m not going to waste my life on it.
Last night I worked on the baby blanket. I’m about 40% done now. I’m hoping to get quite a bit further on it today, but I have a tonne of laundry to fold first. I’ll post a picture of my progress tomorrow (or if not tomorrow then at least in my next blog entry).
Happy Knitting!

That is a mess! Can you find someone who enjoys untangling yarn? My mom loves it. She’s in Montreal otherwise I would send her your way.
Chuck it. It’s not like it’s discontinued Sugarbabies or something valuable! ;)
It’s always a good idea to cultivate as friends people for whom untangling is a zen-like activity.
How annoying for you. I hate it when you are trying to wind the balls and the skein decides to just make up its mind to gather a few strands at once and make a big tangle. Must get one of those skein holders I think. Good luck with the untangling.
Nothing frustrates me more than tangled yarn…grrr. I think my blood pressure went up a few points just looking at it! :-) I love, love, love the kitty hat – it’s a shame he feels uncomfortable wearing it to school though – I guess every age group has some jerks in it.
It looks like you ran into what I did on those damn Jade Sapphire hanks. :-( I’m tempted to say chuck it. I’m sorry you had that problem
My vote would be to chuck it Sam.
Why can’t Owen wear his Leaf shirt in Ontario?
Can’t wait to see your progress on the baby blanket.
Sam, do you subscribe to The Toronto Star by chance?
